Bernard Louis DuPlessis

Born January 4, 1904 and died April 23, 1992

St. Benedicts Yearbook – 1921 – The yearbook is titled “The Maroon Telolog” and is in the possession of Bernard (Bud) L. DuPlessis, III. Margaret DuPlessis inserted a note stating that Father William married them. On page 38 we learn that his pet diversion is “Reading all the newspapers he can lay hand on.” which is no surprise to those who knew him. In the photo “Class of Nineteen Twenty-One”, he is the second from left on the top row. In the photo “The Editorial Board”, he is seated at the table next to the two priests. The table still exists and his grandsons Bernard and James M. had the priveledge of being photographed at that table c 2003.

Excerpts from Miracle on High Street – This book was authored by Thomas A McCabe and published in 2011. Bud possess a copy of this book handed down to him from his father who cooresponded with the author. The author quotes Bernard on page 44. On page 45 there is a photo of the “Stoop” with Bernard amongst the group. The photo came from the above 1921 yearbook. Bernard is on the fourth step up, middle of three students.

New York University Yearbook – 1921 – The yearbook is titled “The Commerce Violet – 1925” and is for the School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance at NYU. Bud possess the yearbook. On page 102 we see Bernard’s photo with his notable eyeglasses. We also learn that he had the nickname “Ben”. This grandson never heard this name used. We also see that he was a member of the Alpha Beta chapter of the fraternity Phi Kappa Tau. In the photo on page 323, he is on the far left of the top row. His grandson David would later join the Alpha Gamma chapter at the University of Delaware and serve with distinction.
